ABOUT ACE

 

I started Au Carrefour Etrange (A.C.E.) back in 2007 on blogspot with the idea of creating a space for erotic, bizarre and wonderful images from the past, all coming from my personal collection of vintage books, magazines and ephemeras. I liked the idea of a « carrefour », somewhere at the crossroad of different eras and cultural levels from lowbrow art forms to more « official » or academic ones, with a slightly heart preference for the forgotten and underrated ones. After blogspot came tumblr and facebook, where my scans found their place into a big magma of amazing pictures shared by many pages owners, sharing inspiration, tips and good moments with me in a very open minded way.

 

My eye evolved a lot through the years and my curiosity got bigger and bigger while I discovered different types of illustrations from Spain, Italy and many other countries. It would take me more than one life to get into all different kinds of art forms that fit my tastes so I always try to share what I find before my eye gets drawn into something else. ACE has always been a work in progress, and will ever be.

 

Recently I turned totally obsessed with snapshots, These anonymous expressions of individual or collective memory turned me into a very active collector. Finding an image that immediatly catches the eye is like a Holy Grail for me, and the more I find these photos, the more my eye gets sharper and my search is moving into different and new directions. There would be so much more to say about vernacular photos but this is just an introduction. I hope your curiosity will meet mine in these strange ways of underground and hidden knowledges, be welcome to ACE's universe and enjoy the trip !
